Jeep SUV floor mats can lead to unintended acceleration

November 9, 2018 - Jeep has issued a voluntary recall for 4,822 examples of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk SUVs.

The issue comes from the driver-side floor mat. In the affected vehicles, the floor mat may unintentionally trap the gas pedal. If that happens, lifting one's foot off the accelerator wouldn't correspond to a decrease in speed, and that kind of situation is a safety concern especially since these cars have 475 or even 707 horsepower.

Jeep is not alone. Unintended acceleration was a major issue for Toyota about a decade ago as there were countless cases of their vehicles speeding up on their own, often leading to accidents and, in some cases, deaths.
